Privacy & File Limits
Client-Side Privacy: Your scanned documents are processed 100% locally in your browser memory using client-side WebAssembly OCR. No document files, images, or extracted text are ever transmitted to our servers or stored in any database.
Usage Limits: Tested on scanned PDFs and images up to 10 pages and 20 MB. Initial download size: WebAssembly runtime ~3.7 MB, language data: English 1.9 MB, Hindi 901 KB, Marathi 990 KB. Recognition accuracy was measured on generated digital samples: English achieved ~97.0% accuracy (3.0% CER), while complex Devanagari ligatures in Hindi (~67.9% accuracy, 32.1% CER) and Marathi (~79.3% accuracy, 20.7% CER) are experimental. Physical smartphone camera captures with uneven lighting, angles, or paper creases will experience significantly higher error rates than flat scans.
Frequently Asked Questions
How large is the client-side OCR engine download?
The WebAssembly core runtime is 3.7 MB, and language models are downloaded on demand: English is 1.9 MB, Hindi is 901 KB, and Marathi is 990 KB. All assets are self-hosted on our origin and cached by your browser for offline use.
What is the expected character recognition accuracy?
On clean generated test samples, English achieves high accuracy (~97%), while Hindi and Marathi support is experimental (~68–79% on clean samples) due to complex Devanagari conjuncts. Real smartphone camera photos with shadows, tilts, or blur can produce significantly worse results; flat, well-lit scans are recommended.
Does this OCR tool work without an active internet connection?
Yes, once the language models and WebAssembly modules are downloaded on first use, recognition runs entirely offline in your browser.
Are my scanned documents uploaded to any cloud server?
No. The entire OCR pipeline runs in browser memory on your device, ensuring maximum privacy for confidential forms and certificates.
